Location Based Services

Providing information and media specific to the location

WDSI Digital Media is a platform that enables the design, scheduling, delivery and playback of content and advertising media on digital displays. It is suitable for use at a fixed installation, such as a pier, or onboard a bus or ferry.

WDSI Digital Media can be integrated with our other solutions, including:

  • Real Time Passenger Information allowing passenger information to be displayed alongside other news, information and advertising content; and
  • High Sensitivity GPS-based platform, enabling the delivery of location-aware media. In this case, not only can route-specific information be displayed on the screen, but announcements, landmark or advertising content can be displayed that is relevant to the ferry or vehicle’s current location. Media reels for display onboard can be downloaded and synchronised with the onboard player, both at the depot or mooring and when the asset is underway, using our Mobile Broadband Gateway.

The solution can handle many content types, such as advertising or other news and information, in split windows in the main screen. This provides a richer, more engaging display which should increase dwell times and offer additional revenue potential.

Key benefits:

Provides additional rich and relevant information to passengers
  • Increases passenger usage and loyalty
  • Provides additional revenue streams for transport operators
  • Provides a measured response for advertisers
  • Easy to use, web-based remote management of media content

Case Study

Arriva Denmark – National Bus and Train operator wanted to create a showcase vehicle, incorporating a number of innovative ideas designed to promote the customer experience for its passengers.

LCD screens were installed, linked to a WDSI Digital Media player and MobileMesh Mobile Broadband Gateway, equipped with GPS. Passengers received audio stop announcements and could view a three-way split screen display showing:

  • the precise location of the bus on a moving map
  • up to date video news from a news channel (with audio)
  • advertising, which changed according to the location of the bus
